Spring Creek Prairie Nature Center

Spring Creek Prairie Nature Center

The Clark Enersen Partners completed the new 7,000-square-feet Spring Creek Prairie Education Center for the Nebraska Audubon Society. The purpose of the facility is to foster the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of Nebraska’s prairie ecosystem by engaging people in Audubon Spring Creek Prairie’s natural and cultural resources. Consistent with this mission, the design and construction of the Center features leading-edge Green Building systems.
The design concept focuses on minimizing the building’s impact on the site and providing visual connection to the prairie. The building is oriented to make efficient use of sun angles for heating and cooling the facility. A hay bale structural system, utilizing prairie grass grown at the site, was used for construction. Interior finishes include materials from easily renewable resources. Care was also taken to incorporate low-VOC paint and glue compounds.
The center’s conference room features bi-fold doors that can be raised for indoor/outdoor activities that extend out into the yard, maximizing its usage.
